Enjoy Red Kites
Six feet across: that is how big their wings are. They are the biggest birds most people will see in this country. Red kites were reintroduced into Ireland about a mile from our farm so our pods are a great place to watch them. In a normal year we see them between early February and early July, though sometimes they are chased off by ravens. During autumn and winter, they tend to roost further up the valley.
Buzzards are smaller and stockier. They also tend to hold their wings in a raised ‘V’ when soaring, whereas Red Kites hold their angular wings flat, or slightly downcurved.
